    The Department of Sociology and Anthropology (DSA) is part of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. The department was the first department of Sociology and Anthropology in Israel, and played a pivotal role in the development of the Social Sciences in Israel. Its graduates have gone on to become faculty members in Israel and abroad. The department seeks to develop and maintain high standards of research and teaching in the fields of sociology, anthropology, organizations and demography. Members of the department have been involved in high profile research both in Israel and overseas, and the department has contributed substantially to the development of the discipline in Israel and beyond, and through its faculty and alumni, to Israeli society as a whole. Several prominent professors from the department have won the Israel Prize, the highest award for academic excellence in Israel: The late Professor Shmuel N. Eisenstadt, Professor Yehudit Shuval, Prof. Moshe Lissak, Prof. Elihu Katz, and Prof. Chaim Adler.
